Reflections of a Pool

October 28th, 2025

I'm in seiza. Peering into a pool of water.

It's a perfect mirror. My gaze reflects back at me.

I dip my head in and open my eyes.

It's dark, but there I see it, a la Siddartha and the river, thousands upon thousands of people stand in unison. Spiraling downward in a helix, their souls coalesce in an infinity column down the pool.

Humanity upon humanity. The essence that we all share, of all the humans that ever lived. That mystery.

A child asks, "What does it mean to be human?"

The faces in the pool are shining, they're emotional, they're stalwart. They're scared. They're happy and sad. They're excited and elated. They're angry.

Laughter, silence, yells, and whispers echo in the pool.

Each and everyone of are human beings. Bound together by the threads of humanity.

Why, every one of us are human beings.

My aunt has cancer. I should visit my grandparents' graves.
