Parents, Life

May 3rd, 2026

Life isn't about money, is it?

My parents visited this weekend — San Mateo, Golden Gate Park, Embarcadero and Fisherman's Wharf. We did what San Francisco had to offer.

But what particularly stood out to me is how much I realized I value family.

My parents want to buy a familial home, but I realize I won't be based out of Houston anymore—and that fact makes me a little sad.

But knowingly, I realize my entire life can't be about family and relations, some portion is about the money I make.

I've made a decision to visit monthly or every few months, I realize I don't want to leave my family roots behind in Houston. Just like how the Vietnamese move to Saigon for work, I moved to San Francisco for work, and just like them I'll make the effort to make the trip back home and not forget my roots.

But my tech job and my girlfriend are here—life here is good and the heat is bearable.

They're dealing with an empty nest—and they won't necessarily give their opinion of C, having met her properly, directly. They want me to live my life, which is fair.

I think particularly I am questioning about the need for money—I really do have everything I need. Parents, friends, and family by my side. Soon enough children.

I looked out to the blue sky on my walk home from the hotel—what is it all, and what does it all mean?

We stopped by a pickleball court, and I could not help but observe how ambition-hungry these young tech-ladden men were. No women were in sight to be seen, and I could not help but think to myself how little I want to absorb myself in such a competitive culture.

I don't have any need to prove myself to these people.

In fact, I don't think I need to prove myself to anyone. I think I am okay just the way things are.
